Default The Colosseum

This is my idea of a 1v1 pvp area. As you can tell it is called the Colosseum and is a tournement of 32 people split into two groups of 16.

In the Colosseum Regsrtation Room there will be two registration personals that you can sign up to compete in a tournament. There will be a fee of 200 gold because the combination of the gold from the people will be the prize given to first and second place. First place will get 3k and a champion point (which will be discussed more later) and second place basicly gets a refund of 200 gold.
Since there are two registrators, there can be two tournaments going on at the same time. But you can not register agian until a tournament is over.
Once you have paid the gold to register, a bar will appear in the party box in the same place that the alliance bar appears. The bar will have the name "opponent" and underneath will be the name of the person you will be up agianst.
When it is your turn to fight a message will appear saying you will be teleported to the battle field in xx seconds. Once you teleport you will be in a room with two closed doors in front of you. There will be a count down timer, like every other pvp, telling you "the battle will start in xx seconds." When the timer counts down to "0" the doors will openand it is now time for you for you to use all of your fighting skills to win!
Once the fight is over, both you and your opponent are teleported back into the Registration Room. The looser will have to wait until a tournenment is over before he can register agian. All the winner has to do is wait until there is another opponent whos name will appear under tha same place.
Now onto the arenas and champion points.
Each stage of the tournement will be fought in a different field. The first will be fought in an open feild. The second will be fought in a field with hills and cliffs. The third, and last battle of the tournement, will be fought on a field with trees, hills, cliffs, and traps. Each one will have you use different tactics. And is just so there is more variety and not the same thing over and over.
Now for the champion points. One of the most exciting parts. Each time you rain victorious by winning a tournament, you will get rewarded with money and 1 champion point. If you earn more points than any other person you will be rewarded with the title "Superior Champion" a title you can only get by having more champion points than any other. And only you will have this title. But there is a way to loose the title. If someone else gets more champion points than you have, you will be stripped of the title and will be given to the one with more points. This will bump you down to second place which in turn bumps all the others down a place. The only way of getting the title back is by winning more points in the tournaments.
There are titles for second and third place called "Major Champion" and "Minor Champion." Theis have the same rules as the above title does. There is one way to gain extra points from a battle. If you happen to be fighting the "Superior Champion" in the last battle of the tournement and beat him you will be awarded 3 champion pionts instead of 1.
Now into other features at the Registration Room. In the Registration Room there will be a score board where you can see the people in 1st to 10th place and the champion pionts they have earned. There are also two Storage Agents and two Priest of Balthazar.
Another thing is, whenever a person wins a round at the tournement a message will come up saying "(inseart name) has won and is moving on to the next round!" Also when a person wins a whole tournement a message comes up saying "(inseart name) has won the tournement!" Once you become the "Superior Champion" a message will come up like the one for the HA winners saying "(inseart name) has won the title of Superior Champion!" (I am not sure if announcing this message across all channels should be added) Another message will come up telling you which registrator is open for people to register. And, once it is full, will anounce that registration is closed.

Well, I hope you like this idea. Please post what you like and what you think needs tweaking.

Champion title is already in use... for GvG.

And its been pointed out that 1 vs 1 wont work in GW, just play something like Crippling Anguish Mesmer with enchant removal, opponent likely wont have hex removal and if they do, interrupt it or cover the hex again. And many people would probably use endurance builds, that are impossible to kill by one person to make the opponent leave.

I really love this idea because I've been getting bored of Guild Wars. This 1v1 tournament would give me more motivation to play. Lately, when I log on to play Guild Wars I think to myself, What should I do? Playing Guild Wars lately is boring to me because I hate farming and PvP is becomeing boring. A 1v1 tournament would help this a lot. In my opinion Guild Wars needs to majorly make a change in the way PvP is played. What I'm trying to say is that there needs to be more options of PvP, as well as PvE, because after you beat the game you go to play PvP. Once you've gotten bored of waiting for teams in Team Arenas, and struggling to get a good team in Random Arenas, theres nothing to do, and since I'm not a person who likes to farm and take time to try and earn new titles, I have nothing to do on Guild Wars. When I bought Guild Wars I was excited about getting right into PvP and only having to level up to level 20. Then PvP got really boring because over and over again you're doing the same thing. A 1v1 tournament would give you another thing to make a build for and another goal to stive for, win the tournament. I think more of these ideas need to be put into place.

/signed all the way

I forgot about GvG having the champion titles. Thanks Master of Puppets for saying that.
Well, I guess we would have to use Fighter or something of the like.

1v1 doesnt work in GW without a skill banning system.

It pissed me off in the guild hall when a 'Ranger/Mesmer' went against me when I was a flag running ranger. He owned me. Period. He just pust empathy+clumsiness on and started using degens with interupts. That's what I hate about 1v1. You don't need skill, just the right spells on a hidden caster.

1v1 has been mentioned before. While certainly interesting, it just won't work without extensive testing and, as mentioned, skill banning. All the existing skills have been designed with a team in mind, so in solo play, certain skills and builds are just plain overpowered and impossible to take down unless u brought in the exact counter.

and Millard, sorry to hear you're bored. having a good guild really helps alleviate boredom.

We did 1v1 scrimms in our guild before, it just became chaos because classes are desiged to take down others, so unless you are forced to match your own class, this will not work.

Thanks for what you all said. It is true, now that I see it, that 1v1 would never work in Guild Wars. But thanks to you all who read the idea!

It could work... if you made it so that everyone had the same skillbar (like snowball fights or the dragon arena) that would stop things like endurance builds or spiking, you could also make everybodys health upto 500 or something and everybody have the same defence
